MUMBAI: Heavy rains in Mumbai, Maharashtra's capital, have led to the cancellation of five trains due to waterlogging at several stations, Central Railways announced on Monday morning. Train services between Kalyan and Kasara, which were previously affected, have now been restored. Rain is expected to continue throughout the week.
The following trains are canceled for July 8 until further notice, according to the Railways' post on X:

Flooded tracks caused stoppages for nearly an hour at many stations. Although services have resumed, trains are operating at a slower pace. Trains between Kalyan and Kasara are running at restricted speeds, Central Railway reported.
Rail services have also been disrupted at Sion and between Bhandup and Nahur stations. "Water was above the tracks, causing trains to stop for nearly an hour. Although the water has receded somewhat, services remain affected," the report stated.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts moderate to heavy rainfall will continue in Mumbai throughout Monday, July 8, 2024, with possible thunderstorms. Early on Monday, heavy rain continued in Mumbai's Dindoshi, causing waterlogging in many areas. The IMD forecasts heavy rains for the Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada regions until July 10.
In response to the heavy rainfall, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced the closure of schools on Monday. Over 300 mm of rainfall was recorded in various parts of Mumbai between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m., according to civic officials.
"To avoid inconvenience to students, a holiday for the first session is declared for all BMC, Government, and Private schools and colleges in Mumbai (BMC area). The decision for the next session will be announced after reviewing the situation," stated the BMC.
