Hemant Soren govt slammed by Delhi HC, says 'that's why industrialists don't invest in Jharkhand'

Ranchi: The Delhi High Court has slammed the Hemant Soren government in Jharkhand for leasing out individual land without acquiring a company named Adani Power and later stopping it from mining on it, calling it fraudulent. The court said that due to this behaviour of the state  government, no industrialist wants to come and invest in Jharkhand.

A division bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Neena Bansal Krishna told the Jharkhand government, "This is a fraud. You did not acquire the land, yet you gave the private land to the petitioner (Adani). How can you lease out a property which does not belong to you?" The court said, adding that even after the notice was issued in September last year, no reply was filed by the government.

At the same time, the high court said that it will also direct to file an FIR against the officers of the state government who had signed these documents. At the same time, the court has threatened the Chief Secretary of Jharkhand to recover its price. The Chief Justice told the Jharkhand government, "You have taken Rs 92.5 crore and given the land which is yet to be acquired and which is forest land. Only 17 hectares belong to the government and that too is a forest. You have given only 2% or 3% of the promised land and you took Rs 92.5 crore. It is a criminal act. At the same time, the Chief Justice said, "I will pass an order to file a complaint against your officers. It is fraud. What kind of a state is this, where the petitioner has been given such land, which is yet to be acquired? The court asked the state government to give an opportunity to file a reply and fixed March 29 as the next date of hearing.
