Hemant Soren to Spend Night in Jail, Court Reserves Order on ED's Custody Demand

Ranchi: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday, appeared before a PMLA court in Ranchi, where the court reserved its order on the ED's custody demand. Hemant Soren has challenged his arrest in the Supreme Court but is expected to spend the night in jail. Following his arrest, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) sources indicated that 43 MLAs are in support of Champai Soren, the party loyalist named as Hemant Soren's successor. There are plans to fly Jharkhand coalition MLAs to Hyderabad.

The day after Hemant Soren's arrest, JMM sources revealed that 43 MLAs are backing Champai Soren, and there are discussions about moving Jharkhand coalition MLAs to Hyderabad. The former Chief Minister resigned before his arrest, and Champai Soren was named as his successor. Hemant Soren filed an FIR against the ED personnel, alleging harassment and maligning of him and his community during the searches at his Delhi residence.

Following Soren's resignation, Champai Soren claimed support from 47 legislators to form a new government in Jharkhand. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Alamgir Alam mentioned handing over a support letter from 43 MLAs to the governor, who assured them a call. Currently, 43 MLAs are supporting Champai Soren, with five MLAs responsible for alliance developments in Ranchi, while the rest are prepared to move to Hyderabad if needed.
