Amul Milk Prices Increase by Rs. 2 Per Litre: Starting June 3, 2024, the price of Amul milk has increased by Rs. 2 per litre across India, announced by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the organization behind the popular Amul brand. Reasons for the Price Hike The price hike is attributed to rising input costs. Amul's buffalo milk now costs Rs. 73 per litre, while cow milk is priced at Rs. 58 per litre. The GCMMF explained that the overall cost of milk production and operations has gone up, necessitating this increase. Additionally, the federation's member unions have raised the price they pay farmers for milk by approximately 6-8% over the past year. Maintaining Farmer Remuneration GCMMF emphasized that since February 2023, there had been no price increases for fresh milk pouches in major markets. The federation noted that nearly 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers is given to milk producers. The price revision is intended to ensure fair prices for milk producers and to encourage higher milk production. Supporting Dairy Farmers This move aims to support dairy farmers by providing them with better compensation, which in turn is expected to boost milk production levels. Amul, marketed by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), is one of India's most trusted and well-known dairy brands. Established in 1946, GCMMF is a cooperative organization that plays a significant role in India's dairy industry. It was founded with the mission to provide fair prices to dairy farmers while ensuring quality products for consumers.
