Shimla: The Jairam Thakur government in Himachal Pradesh has finally issued a notification to set up a General Category Commission on Friday (December 10th) following the demands of the agitators. CM Jairam Thakur told the Assembly that the General Category Commission will be constituted in the next three months. Thousands of protesters were continuously agitating demanding the constitution of the Commission. In the Assembly, CM Jairam Thakur said, "The general category people in Himachal Pradesh had been demanding for a long time that a General Category Commission be set up in the state to address the various problems of the general category people. The present State Government is committed to the economic and social upliftment of every section of the society. The Government has launched schemes for the development of every section so that they can get equal opportunities for progress and development. He urged the people of the state to maintain peace and harmony in the state and not to do anything that would disturb the peaceful atmosphere and image of the peace loving people of Himachal Pradesh. According to media reports, during the winter session of the Assembly, people had protested at Jorawar Stadium in Dharamshala demanding setting up of a General Category Commission. People from all over the state had gathered at the demonstration. The police had used water splashes and mild force on them, yet the protesters did not dige. Meanwhile, barricades were broken and attempts were made to enter the Assembly. DGP and several other officials tried to pacify the issue but the protesters insisted on meeting the CM. Finally, the CM had to come for talks and accepted the demands of the protesting people.
