M Chidanamurthy dies in Bengaluru, earned a big name for contribution in this field

Today, historian, researcher, and writer M. Chidanamurthy, who made his significant contribution to Indian history, died in Bengaluru. He was also known for his campaign for the conservation of Hampi monuments. M Chidanand Murthy was born on 10 May 1931. He is a renowned scholar of Karnataka who specializes in Kannada language and history of ancient Karnataka. He is also known for his conservation of Hampi monuments and his campaign to give the Kannada language the status of classical language.

Chidanand Murthy received an Arts degree from the University of Mysore in 1953. He received a Master of Arts degree in Kannada literature from the University of Mysore in 1957. During his postgraduate studies, he produced his influential essay Pampa poet Mattu Maulana Prasara. At the University of Mysore, he came under the influence of historians like Kuvempu, Putina, Raghavachar and Kannada litterateurs such as S. Srikanth Shastri.

In doctoral research on Kannada inscriptions, Murthy guided another literary tejomashree. His doctoral thesis was titled Cultural Studies of Kannada Inscriptions. Let me tell you that he received his Ph.D. from Bangalore University in 1964.
