Hollongi airport soon to be operational in Arunachal Pradesh

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) is constructing a Greenfield Airport in Hollongi, Arunachal Pradesh, 15 kilometres from Itanagar. The project, which is expected to cost Rs 645 crore, includes development work such as airport pavement construction, airside work, terminal building construction, and city side work.

The proposed airport is designed to accommodate A-320 aircraft, with a 500-meter runway expansion planned in the future to cater A-321 aircraft. The airport's terminal building, which spans 4100 square metres, will be ready to cater 200 passengers during peak hours. The terminal building will include eight check-in counters and all current passenger facilities.

Development The project is in full swing, with over 80% of the airside work completed. The construction of the new interim terminal building is 30% completed. On August 15, 2022, the airport is expected to open for operation. The terminal will be a low-energy building with a rainwater harvesting system and a sustainable landscape. ATC Tower, Technical Block, Fire Station, Medical Center, and other ancillary works are all part of the development project.

The surrounding landscapes have an impact on the building's exterior. The roof shape is organic and establishes an instant connection with the spectator, moving away from the severe geometry of straight lines and angles. The interior of the building is designed to give passengers a sense of calm. This is accomplished by providing open areas, a hidden service core, and a glass façade that links the eye to the Himalayan Foothills' panoramic scenic beauty.
