In Shillong, on Saturday, the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah inaugurated the 69th Plenary Meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC). The Minister who arrived at Shillong in the morning was received by the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma and other dignitaries. Vice-Chairman of NEC Dr. Jitendra Singh who is also the DoNER Minister and Secretary of NEC was also present. Governors and Chief Ministers of the eight North Eastern States accompanied by a large number of delegations of State Governments and Central Ministries were present at the meeting which is scheduled to conclude tomorrow. The meeting will discuss various developmental projects that are undergoing now and future plans of the entire North-Eastern region. the North Eastern Council is the nodal agency for the economic and social development of the North Eastern Region which consists of the eight States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. The union minister is also scheduled to launch the Ayushman Bharat programme for central armed police forces at Guwahati in Assam this evening.
