Honda Cars reports 26 percent growth in wholesales for 2021

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) announced on Saturday that its domestic wholesales increased by 26% year on year to 89,152 units in 2021. According to HCIL, the company dispatched 70,593 units to dealers in the domestic market from January to December 2020. Exports increased to 16,340 units during the time under review, up from 2,334 units in 2020, according to the carmaker.

The Company reported an 8% drop in domestic sales in December 2021, with 7,973 units sold. In December 2020, it had delivered 8,638 units in the domestic market. Last month, the company also exported 1,165 units. In December 2020, it had shipped 713 units.

"With the ongoing pandemic, the year 2021 continued to be hard, but I believe we learned to cope much better." "Despite COVID-related and supply-side problems, HCIL domestic volume increased by 26% in CY'21, owing to the outstanding performance of our best sellers Amaze and City," said Yuichi Murata, HCIL Director (Marketing and Sales).

He noted that the addition of new export destinations for Honda City to left-hand-drive markets greatly increased the company's exports last year.  "Our December despatches were consistent with our production output, which was nonetheless hampered by the global chip scarcity," Murata said.
