NEW DELHI: Huma Qureshi is getting ready to release "Double XL," her next movie about self-love and body positivity, at a time when bullying and body shaming are the easiest ways to target a person. The actress claims that due of her weight, she has experienced body-shaming and has even been turned down for a role in a movie. Huma explained to the media how the "Double XL" narrative came to be. When the actors were moaning about their "after lockup weight gain" in my living room, Mudassar Aziz developed a story around it, said Huma. "This movie started as a fun conversation with my friends and family," she added. The 36-year-old actress disclosed that "Double XL" director Satram Ramani encouraged her to put on weight: "We just kept eating nonstop. There were only hamburger and pizza between the action and the cut." When asked what role Bollywood plays in establishing benchmarks for beauty, Huma accuses society of leading people to believe that a "particular weight is acceptable." The actress revealed that she has previously been turned down because of her weight. The actress made her acting debut in 2012 with "Gangs of Wasseypur." I was turned down because of my weight, and a review of my movie stated that Huma "adds too much weight to be a mainstream leading actress," said Huma. She said she could relate to any woman who has felt inadequate because of her appearance, size, or skin tone. The "Bell Bottom" actress hopes that her film "Double XL" will alter people's perspectives. Sonakshi Sinha, Zaheer Iqbal, and Mahat Raghavendra are also featured in "Double XL." The release date has been planned on November 4.
