New Delhi: On Wednesday, a 52-year-old radiologist working at Ram Manohar Lohia hospital committed suicide by hanging herself. The incident happened at her government residence in North Avenue of New Delhi. The doctor, who was identified as Poonam Vohra, in her suicide letter, accused three other doctors of "humiliating and harassing' her as she was leading an enquiry against them. On Wednesday, around at 1 pm this incident took place. The deceased doctor's husband, Charanjiv Vohra, returned home to find it locked. On peeping through the window, Vohra found his wife hanging from the ceiling fan. He broke open the door with the help of his neighbours and rushed her to a hospital where she was declared dead. The couple’s children were attending school when the incident happened. Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP- New Delhi), told that the suicide note was found in the bedroom. The note had only one line written on it- the three doctors were humiliating and harassing her. Preliminary investigation revealed that Poonam was leading an enquiry related to misconduct against the three doctors. However, he claimed that he was unaware of the details of the enquiry. Verma added that the police would interrogate the hospital's administration and the deceased's colleagues to know about the enquiry. The authenticity of the note was also being verified. The police have registered a case under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code on the basis of the doctor's husband. The deceased woman's body has been sent for a postmortem.
