Chennai: On Wednesday, a filmmaker was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly murdering his wife. After murdering his wife on January 19, the accused had chopped her body parts and dumped them in different parts of the city. Some body parts of the deceased were recovered from a dump yard last month. The accused was identified as 51-year-old filmmaker Balakrishnan.
The tattoos on the legs of the body helped the police identify the victim as 37-year-old Sandhya, an aspiring actress. The two tattoos which were designed like Shiva-Parvati and a dragon and a bangle helped the police initiate investigation and led them to the filmmaker. When the pictures of the tattoos and the bangle were circulated in the city, Sandhya's mother in Thoothukudi approached the police. The filmmaker had told the family that his wife had returned to Thoothukudi, however, she was not reachable on phone.

Investigation led the police to suspect Balakrishnan. During questioning the filmmaker confessed to having murdered his wife as he suspected Sandhya's loyalty. The accused murdered his wife on January 19. After chopping her body into pieces and collecting them in plastic bags, he dumped them in garbage bins in various parts of the city the next day.
An investigating officer ,Alvin in the case said that the accused confessed to have committed the crime. The police official added that they are searching for the deceased woman's head and torso based on the details that Balakrishnan had provided. Another part of the deceased's body was recovered.
