Hyderabad: A Professor of the University of Hyderabad has been detained for allegedly trying to molest a foreign student, police said on Sunday. A case has been registered against the 62-year-old professor for attempting to outrage the modesty of a woman and sexually assaulting her, police said on Saturday. The case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by a university official. At the same time, the university has taken action against the professor and suspended him. It is alleged that the professor of the Hindi Department took the Thai woman home on Friday evening, saying he would teach her Hindi, and tried to molest her. No one else was at the professor's house when the incident took place. The complainant, a postgraduate student, was not able to speak in English or Hindi, so her statement was recorded with the help of a translator, a police official said. The student said the professor added alcohol to the drink without informing her, he said. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists reached the university and staged a protest demanding strict action against the accused. The university has issued a statement condemning the incident involving the professor and the student.
