Hyundai India aims to maintain its leadership position in the SUV segment in 2022

Hyundai Motor India is looking to keep its dominance in the SUV market this year, after leading the segment in 2020 and 2021 with sales of more than 1.8 lakh and 2.5 lakh SUVs, respectively. The demand for its models such as Creta and Venue has remained strong. The new-generation Creta sold 1.25 lakh units in 2021 alone, while the vehicle has sold over 2.15 lakh units since its debut in March 2020. Since its debut in 2015, the car has sold over six lakh units in the domestic market.

Hyundai has sold over 8.34 lakh SUVs in the previous five years, indicating that SUVs are becoming more popular. With over 2.6 lakh units sold since its introduction in May 2019, its Venue variant has also played a vital part in the SUV success storey. Hyundai Venue sold more than 1.08 lakh cars in 2021 alone. Since its premiere in June 2021, the carmaker's newest SUV, the Alcazar, has sold over 17,700 units.

This is particularly intriguing at a time when SUV sales in the United States are rapidly increasing. SUVs accounted for roughly 29% of total passenger car sales in 2020, increasing to 37% in 2021.

According to Tarun Garg, the firm's India Director of Sales, Marketing, and Service, the business has sold over 8.34 lakh SUVs in the last five years. "As a result, we are sure that we will continue to do well in the SUV market. We have a comprehensive offering, which puts us in a strong position "He made a point.

Garg went on to say that the SUV category is still growing at a rapid pace, and that the firm is well-positioned to lead the pack. He went on to say that the trend toward SUVs in the domestic market will continue since the cars have become a status symbol for purchasers. "There's also the idea that SUVs are safe." Furthermore, having a high ground clearance is an advantage when driving on any surface.
