'I would have loved to be on this list': Koozhangal out of Oscar 2022 race; Vignesh Shivan says 'Would have been great'

The movie Koozhangal, directed by PS Vinothraj, has been chosen as India's official entry for the 94th Academy Awards. The film, which was also titled Pebbles, has now been withdrawn from of the Oscar contest. he film’s producer Vignesh Shivan shared the news on Twitter, “Would have been great to be on this list ! Nevertheless I thank @PsVinothraj for giving such a pure cinema! I thank the Indian jury members for selecting our film as the official entry for the oscars this year. Thanking all our well-wishers & friends for rooting for us.” He is glad that the film made it this far at the Oscars. However, many were rooting for film to win the distinguished honour.  

 

The relationship between an alcoholic father and his kid is the subject of Koozhangal. It tells the story of their attempt to reclaim their wife, who had fled her problematic home. PS Vinothraj's debut film is based on a true story that took place in the filmmaker's own family. The film has already received the top Tiger Award at Rotterdam's 50th International Film Festival.

Meanwhile, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, another Indian contender, 'Writing With Fire,' has advanced to the next round of the Oscars. 'Drive My Car,' a Japanese film, 'Flee,' a Danish film, and 'The Hand of God,' an Italian film, are now in the running for the international feature film category, with 'Drive My Car,' a Japanese film, 'Flee,' a Danish film, and 'The Hand of God,' an Italian film, being marketed as top candidates. In the beginning, 92 countries were represented in the category.
