Hyderabad: Unidentified assailants vandalized the idol of the goddess at Bhoolaxmi Temple in Rakshapuram, Santosh Nagar on Monday night. The incident has led to widespread outrage and a significant police response. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the case. A large crowd gathered at the temple, voicing their anger and raising slogans against the attack. Police officials arrived at the scene to manage the situation and prevent further unrest. DCP South East Kanti Lal Patil reported, "The incident took place between 11:30 pm and midnight under the Santosh Nagar police station limits. Police acted swiftly and apprehended two individuals after tracking through CCTV footage. One of them is identified as the primary suspect. The investigation is ongoing." Patil added that preliminary investigations have identified two suspects, and efforts are underway to capture all responsible parties. However, he emphasized that there is currently no evidence linking the vandalism to any political motive. BJP Bhagya Nagar district president Samreddy Surender Reddy claimed that the attack occurred in the Chandrayanagutta Assembly Constituency, Riyasat Nagar division, Rakshapuram colony. Reddy alleged that the vandalism was orchestrated by the local corporator and his associates. He criticized the authorities, stating that the temple has been targeted multiple times in the past five years, and claimed that the corporator's connections may have influenced the arrest of the two suspects. Reddy pointed out that the temple is located just 50 yards from the police station and criticized the lack of patrolling on the night of the incident. He suggested that further investigation should focus on the corporator and a nearby pan shop owner. The police have assured that they are committed to resolving the case and apprehending all individuals involved in the attack.
