Illegal trafficking of newborn from Delhi, 4 arrested in Gujrat

VADODARA :  The Vadodara city police have arrested four persons with regard to the trafficking of an 8-day-old baby girl. The four were arrested on Sunday when a couple from Delhi delivered the newborn to a Vadodara couple.

The City Police booked a complaint and arrrested four persons from the Vadodara railway station area on Sunday evening.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abhay Soni said, "With a baby girl in their hands, Vadodara residents Saurabh Vora and his wife Soma were caught close to the train station. The couple told the police during the initial investigation that Puja Harishankar and Dipak Kumar Shivcharan, who live in Delhi's Karol Bagh area, gave them the child."

The officer added that the newborn girl had been admitted to the SSG hospital for medical evaluation and treatment after Puja and Dipak refused to give the police the baby's birth certificate and documentation proving who her real parents were.

"The case has also been reported to Delhi Police. If there is child trafficking involved, the local police will continue their own independent investigation into the matter. They will also look into whether the two Delhi-based suspects are part of a larger interstate child trafficking ring "said DCP.
