In fact, Apple has integrated AI features into many of its products

USA: Artificial intelligence (AI) is a term that conjures up images of organisations like Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI. At the mention of AI, nobody would claim to have thought of Apple.

Most people believe that the iPhone manufacturer is falling behind in this area. The Cupertino-based tech giant has, in fact, integrated AI features into many of its products.

Apple has been remarkably quiet while its Big Tech rivals move quickly to advance their AI capabilities. Given that generative AI has come to be equated with AI in general, Siri's status as a dated chatbot has hurt Apple's reputation.

However, the company has shifted its attention to generative AI. It recently published job postings looking for generative AI specialists.

For as long as anyone can remember, iPhones are excellent photographers. For instance, single-lens devices like the iPhone XR and SE3 can use the Camera app to recognise the edges of the subject and output Portrait Mode images. These phones lack multiple lenses for object detection. They rely on Apple's machine learning to produce high-quality portraits instead.

There are numerous AI-powered features available in the Photos app on iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura. By erasing the background, users can remove specific subjects from images. The function functions offline because of machine learning.

Without any prior indexing, the process is also instantaneous. In Photos, the 'For You' tab uses AI to present users with images that are similar to the ones they have already seen.

Due to its inability to compete with modern chatbots like ChatGPT, Siri has been defamed. There have been rumours that Apple is looking into giving Siri access to generative AI. Siri still has some AI features, despite its limitations. Take Siri Shortcuts, for instance. Apple uses artificial intelligence (AI) in Siri Shortcuts to recommend various actions to users based on location, app usage, habits, time, and more.

Apple's Live Text makes use of AI to find any text on an image or a video, after which it can translate, convert, or copy it. Additionally, the feature can find graphic elements in pictures. The Offline Dictation function also makes use of AI. Any speech the user makes can be recognised and converted to text. Both features can be used both online and off.

The business optimises battery charging using machine learning. Optimised Battery Charging learns from user habits to prolong battery life, similar to Siri Shortcuts. The relevant OS recognises the user's charging behaviour after the Apple device has been used for a while. When a pattern is identified, it will stop charging at 80%. Only just before the user typically unplugs the device will the charging start up again.

AI and machine learning are also used in Apple's health and safety features. For instance, the business used a sizable amount of statistics and data to teach its devices how to precisely detect accidents in order to make Crash Detection work.
