Hockey: India recorded a convincing win over world champion Belgium

New Delhi: India has defeated the world champion and number two team Belgium in the match. India defeated Belgium 2–0 in the first match of the three-match series. The goal scored in the second half of Mandeep Singh and Akashdeep Singh contributed to this victory. Mandeep scored a goal in the 39th and Akashdeep scored in the 54th minute to lead Team India to victory. The Indian team has now gone 1-0 in the series and its second match will be played on 28 September.

In the first quarter, India initially put pressure and secured the first penalty corner of the match which was saved by Loic Van Doren. After this, Belgium won the penalty corner by retaliating but Krishna Pathak defended him beautifully. India dominated early in the second quarter and got two consecutive penalty corners, but failed to convert them into goals.

India remained in control of the ball most of the time but could not score. Thus, both teams were tied 0–0 until half time. India showed more aggressive play in the third quarter and kept Belgium goalkeeper Van Doren busy. From here, India won the last while keeping hold of the match.
