New Delhi: India Today has released an official statement in the case of fake TRP. India Today has also admitted that it was fined by the Broadcaster Audience Research Council (BARC). However, India Today has alleged that BARC had imposed a fine on it without any corroborated evidence and without any judicial committee inquiry. It also threatened legal action against BARC, alleging that it had made the confidential hearing information public. It termed the imposition of fines by BARC as a "separate case" and wrote that it would take legal action against BARC, but it kept quiet on what was the reason for the penalty. Sources had informed that 'India Today' was asked to pay a fine of Rs 5 lakh as it did not find it satisfactory to the clarification that it handed over to the BARC Disciplinary Council (BDC) behind its viewership increase. A show-cause notice was also issued to TV Today Network Limited and BARC on 27th April 2020 regarding the visible mess in the viewership. Thereafter, the reply given by TV Today did not find the BARC Disciplinary Council satisfactory.
