NEW DELHI: Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia Wednesday that India will have 200-220 more airports, heliports, and water aerodromes. Addressing a press conference, Civil Aviation Minister said, “In the next 5 years, India will have 200-220 more airports, heliports, and water aerodromes." The Minister also laid highlights on how the northeast part of the country has now got 8 more airports. Scindia said, "There were some states in the region where there were no airports but today, Arunachal Pradesh has 3 new airports, Sikkim also has an airport now." Notably, on 5 June, reports arrived that the civil aviation ministry will meet with airlines entities regarding the escalating airfares on specific routes in recent weeks. According to the report, airfares see witnessed a significant surge, particularly following the suspension of operations by crisis-affected airline Go First starting on May 3. The ministry is analyzing how the suspension of Go First's flights may affect these routes, Minister Scindia earlier said, while reacting to the elevated charges on particular routes. The Civil Aviation Ministry is a government department or ministry that oversees and regulates civil aviation activities within a country.
