World Championship Bronze medallist Lakshya Sen has made it to the semifinals of the India Open Badminton Championships. For the first time, Almora's 20-year-old Lakshya defeated Hamatwan HS Prannoy 14-21, 21-9, 21-14 in an hour-long match. The third seeded target will now face Malaysia's Nag Tej Yong, who defeated Ireland's Nahat Nnguyen 9-21, 21-8, 21-16 in one hour and nine minutes.
There was a close competition between Lakshya and Prannoy. Prannoy managed to win the first game but the young player Lakshya clinched the second game to restrict the match to a draw. Prannoy started well with a 6-1 lead in the deciding game but Lakshya had returned to make it 11-9.
He won the match by scoring 9 of the next 11 points after the break. World champion Loh Kein of Singapore has advanced to the last 4 after defeating Russia's Sergei Siranto 21-16, 21-13 in just 33 minutes. He will now face Brian Young of Canada, who defeated Kim Brun of Denmark 21-19, 21-18 in 52 minutes.
