Indian Railways is working on creating a unified 'Super App' that will amalgamate various services such as live train tracking, ticket booking, complaint registration, and more. This move aims to streamline and offer convenience to travelers by consolidating multiple railway apps into a single platform. Currently, Indian Railways operates over 10 separate applications catering to different services like ticket reservations, food orders, and inquiries. To simplify this process, the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS), responsible for managing the railways' IT systems, has been entrusted with the task of developing this comprehensive 'super app'. CRIS is striving to integrate functionalities from existing apps like Rail Madad, UTS, National Train Enquiry System, PortRead, Satark, TMS-Nirikshan, IRCTC Rail Connect, IRCTC eCatering (Food on Track), and IRCTC Air (flight ticket booking) into this unified platform. The development and maintenance of the 'Super App' are estimated to cost Indian Railways around Rs 90 crore over three years. Among the various railway-related apps, IRCTC Rail Connect stands out as the most popular, boasting over 100 million downloads. This initiative aligns with the Modi government's commitment to enhancing and expanding the country's railway infrastructure. Over its nine-year tenure, the BJP-led government has introduced high-speed trains, expanded railway tracks, and modernized numerous railway stations. Key focal points for the government include electrifying railway tracks, extending the railway network, doubling railway tracks to alleviate congestion, and upgrading stations and trains with modern facilities.
