Abu Dhabi: An overseas Indian taxi driver living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has won a prize of one million Dirham in a lottery. The media reported this on Saturday. Shanawas, a 43-year-old originally from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, told the press, "Even if I worked for 50 years, I wouldn't have earned even the money around it."
Shanawas further said, "In 1997, I came here empty-handed, but I had many expectations. I took my driver's license and started working as a taxi driver in Sharjah, but I couldn't save much. Then as a family driver I went to Abu Dhabi and now earn 2,500 dirhams a month."
Shanawas got the mega prize through the 'Mall Millionnaire' launched by Line Investments and Properties in its eight malls in Abu Dhabi and Al-Ain. The campaign comes as a part of the 47-day Retail Abu Dhabi Summer Sales by Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism. Shanawas had spent 200 dirhams at The Khalidiyah Mall to enter the campan draw.
