India's December exports increased 37-pc Year-on-Year

NEW DELHI: India's merchandise exports in December 2021 increased by 37 percent year on year to USD37.29 billion, according to provisional figures released on Monday. Exports totaled USD27.22 billion in December 2020.

Last month's exports increased by 37.55 percent over December 2019, according to figures provided by the Commerce and Industry Ministry.

"The value of non-petroleum exports in December 2021 was USD31.67 billion, representing a 27.31 percent increase over non-petroleum exports of USD24.88 billion in December 2020 and a 34.92 percent increase over non-petroleum exports of USD23.48 billion in December 2019." Non-petroleum, non-gems, and jewellery exports totaled USD28.69 billion in December 2020, an increase of 28.64 percent over December 2020.

According to the data, India's merchandise imports climbed by 38.06 percent to USD59.27 billion in December 2020 from USD42.93 billion the previous month, a surge of 49.70 percent above the USD39.59 billion reported for the same month in 2019.

"The value of non-petroleum imports was USD43.37 billion in December 2021, representing a 30.22 percent increase over non-petroleum imports of USD33.31 billion in December 2020 and a 50.20 percent increase over non-petroleum imports of USD28.88 billion in December 2019."
