India's people growing love toward whiskey, sales break last four-year record

New Delhi: Whiskey sales in India have picked up again. Whiskey sales increased by more than 50 percent between 2014 and 2018. Whiskey sales have registered an 11 per cent growth in 2018, the highest in the last four years. In 2018, three out of every five whisky cases sold around the world were made in India.

Earlier, there was a slight decline in whiskey sales due to the ban on selling alcohol on the highway. According to the latest data from the International Wine and Spirit Research Centre (IWSR), there were about 17.60 million cases of Indian whisky sales worldwide. Experts say that Indians love strong drinks like whisky that can give them instant surur. Whiskey is Indians' favourite wine, though brandy is preferred among people in South India.

In cocktails, Indian people prefer to have drinks like gin and vodka. According to the Economic Times, the world's best-selling whisky brand, Allied Blenders (ABD), has an executives' choice with 3.4 million cases sold. Officers' Choice is about 90 per cent of ABD sales.
