Solapur: A primary teacher of Solapur Zilla Parishad School in Maharashtra has won a reward of Rs 7 crore. Ranjitsinh Disale has received this huge prize money when he was selected for the Global Teacher Award. For the first time, an Indian has received the honour of being the best teacher in the world. The Global Teacher Prize awarded by UNESCO and London-based Varkey Foundation has been announced on Thursday 3 December. Ranjitsinh Disley, teacher of Paritewadi Zilla Parishad School in Solapur district, won the award. Famous film actor Stephen Fry announced the award at a ceremony held at the Natural History Museum in London. More than 12 thousand teachers from 140 countries of the world took part in this competition. Ranjitsinh received this reward for his efforts to promote girls' education and speed up the quick-response (QR) coded textbook revolution in the country. In 2014, 10 finalists were selected from around the world for the annual award established by the Varkey Foundation. This award is given to such a brilliant teacher who has made an outstanding contribution in his field of education. Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has also congratulated Ranjitsinh for this achievement.
