Indore: The crime branch on Wednesday refunded Rs 49000 to a doctor, who was duped by an online thug on the pretext of redeeming reward points. The crime branch officials are also trying to collect the detail about the accused. ASP (crime) Guruprasad Parashar said Dr. Mohan Babu Nema, a resident of Vandana Nagar had lodged a complaint that he had received a phone call from a person, who posed as an official from SBI bank on October 24, 2020. The man informed that there are many reward points that can be redeemed for purchase. The complainant first refused to redeem the points but the accused somehow took the OTP received on the mobile number of the complainant and he siphoned off Rs 49, 290 from the bank account of the complainant. The complainant informed the bank about the fraud after which he lodged a complaint with the crime branch. ASP Parashar instructed the fraud investigating cell of the branch to investigate the matter. The officials took complete details of the fraudster from the complainant and sent an email to SBI bank. After that, the bank immediately stopped the transaction and money was refunded to the complainant’s bank account.
