Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhana Rathore gives a statement on Whatsapp

After rumours spread over Whatsapp in Maharashtra, a crowd of five people were beaten to death, but Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore said that the social media is out of government control. In exclusive talks with with a news website, he said, "Whatsapp cannot be controlled but we can be educated." 

He further said that those who use this app should be careful and they have to understand it before using it. On the dangers of social media in India,  Rathore said, "We have to learn to live with it and ignore it. But yes, the language that is abusive should not be used."  Speaking to the Congress that surrounded the Government on the issue of Fake News, Rathore said, "Congress should not say anything like this. The Congress should talk at the end of the slogan given on Whatsapp because it is itself a crime. They constantly use Whatsapp for damaging the image of Prime Minister Modi." He further said that leaders like Congress President Rahul Gandhi has freedom of speech on social media but it is essential that the users of social media be educated. In the past few days, rumours spread through social media killed 30 people. In the face of being a child thief, the crowd kills strangers to the strangers.

On the statement given to Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad's Kashmir situation, Rajyavardhan said, "Azad's statements were wrong." Azad had said that the army in Jammu and Kashmir is killing more ordinary people other than the terrorists.
