IN-SPACe centres to operate in more localities: Union Minister

HYDERABAD, JAN 7 : The Central government  is in the process of opening more Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centers (IN-SPACe ) at different places in the country and Hyderabad will be one of the proposed venues, said Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of Science, Technology and Space, on Friday.

Singh made the remarks during the 24th national conference on e-governance in response to Telangana's Industry and Information Technology Minister K. T. Rama Rao's plea to establish an Indian Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre in Hyderabad.

Rama Rao, who noted that the Centre has already declared two centres in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, requested the Union Minister to approve a centre in Hyderabad, citing the city's importance as a space research hub. He said, the Indian government has already begun unleashing the space sector and involving commercial actors.

"We're in the process of establishing centres in other cities. Certainly, Hyderabad would be first in line, because the kind of infrastructure they have, as well as the start-up culture that currently exists there, are assets that we would like to leverage for the advancement of space technology in the country "Singh continued.
