International Tea Day will now be celebrated all over the world, UN announced on the recommendation of India

Washington: The United Nations has announced to celebrate International Tea Day on 21 May, accepting India's recommendation. India proposed it about four years ago. India presented this proposal at the meeting of the International Food and Agriculture Organization (AFO) inter-governmental group held in Milan.

Earlier, on the recommendation of India, it was also announced to celebrate International Yoga Day on 21 June. Let me tell you that on December 15 every year, International Tea Divas were celebrated, but only tea producing countries used to celebrate it. The United Nations General Assembly has said in its notification that, "We want to make the world aware of the contribution of tea to the rural economy of the world, so that the goals related to sustainable development of 2030 can be met".

The United Nations says that declaring May 21 as International Tea Day will help in increasing its production and consumption. In addition, the United Nations General Assembly has recognized the tea's medicinal properties as well as cultural importance. The United Nations has urged all member countries, international and regional organizations to celebrate International Tea Day on 21 May every year. During this time programs should be organized to explain the importance of tea in strengthening the rural economy.
