A member of the Executive Council of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has requested Chairman Narendra Batra to ask the legal committee chairman RK Anand to take over the legal matter. IOA officer Bholanath Singh made the request to Batra following a directive from the Delhi High Court, on whose order the Sports Ministry had withdrawn the annual recognition given to 57 National Sports Federations (NSFs). In his letter to Batra, Bholanath said, "I request you to ask the legal committee chairman of the Sangh, RK Anand, to take over the legal matter." He said, 'I can understand that the Honorable Court did not give its recognition to 57 NSF today and its next hearing will be in August. Athletics, hockey, weightlifting are being prepared for the Tokyo Olympics, which will now stop. Stopping training is very bad for athletes. Singh alleged that IOA general secretary Rajiv Mehta and vice-president Sudhanshu Mittal were sabotaging legal efforts for their vested interests. The official said, 'Rajiv Mehta, the Secretary-General who deals with the legal matters of the IOA, knows nothing about the law and that is why the IOA has to give up or compromise in most cases and sometimes fix the case. On Thursday, the Sports Ministry withdrew the annual recognition given to 54 National Sports Federations (NSFs) on the instructions of the Delhi High Court. On Wednesday, the ministry was ordered to withdraw the provisional recognition it had given to 54 NSF on 11 May. The court also said that the ministry did not follow its order of February 7.
