When will the rest of the IPL be held? Chairman Brajesh Patel briefed

New Delhi: It has been decided to postpone the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) midway due to corona after 29 matches. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a difficult decision to postpone the tournament at an emergency governing council meeting of the IPL on Tuesday. IPL Chairman Brajesh Patel informed when 31 matches can be held.

Talking to the media, he said, "It is always a very difficult decision to postpone a tournament like IPL, but four teams had come and some players had joined. One player has been found infected with corona. Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) sport staff were also covid-19 positive. As per the schedule of the tournament with four teams, it was not possible to proceed. It was difficult to rebuild the four-team match. "After seeing the whole situation in India, we all thought that it would be best to postpone it now. Later, the remaining competitions will be held again".

Patel said the remaining 31 matches of the season will be held either before or after the T20 World Cup. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in India in October-November this year. Patel further said, "Whenever we get the time, 29 matches of the season done, the matches will start from where it is over at the moment. We have to see the availability of time, either before the ICC T20 World Cup or after the World Cup".
