Kolkata: Former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, facing CBI probe in the Saradha scam, did not appear despite the CBI summons. According to the CBI, he sent an e-mail late Saturday night asking for a month's grace period for his wife's illness. That was denied by the CBI. On Friday, the Calcutta High Court had withdrawn the relief from Rajiv Kumar's arrest. The court said that continuing the relief for a long time would mean interfering with the investigation. Three officials of the agency, including the investigating officer of the Saradha case, met Rajiv's lawyer in the evening after the CBI team found no clue about Rajiv Kumar's day-long search. A CBI official said a fresh summons can be issued to Kumar.
