Israeli defence minister Benny Gantz to visit India next week

Israel's defence minister Benny Gantz is set to  visit India next week and sign a Letter of Intent (LOI) to commemorate 30 years of bilateral diplomatic and defence ties, according to his office. He will visit India for three days and will meet with his Indian counterpart, Rajnath Singh.

During Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's historic visit to Israel in July 2017, India and Israel elevated their bilateral ties to a strategic alliance.  Since then, the two countries' relationship has centred on growing their knowledge-based partnership, which includes collaboration in innovation and research, as well as bolstering the 'Make in India' effort.

"Defense Minister Benny Gantz will visit India next week (01.06), when he will sign a Letter of Intent commemorating 30 years of diplomatic and defence ties between the two countries." In the following days, a full itinerary will be announced," according to a statement from his office.

Gantz had planned to travel to India at the end of March, but had to cancel his trip due to a spate of devastating terror acts across Israel.

India is one of Israel's top buyers of defence equipment worth billions of dollars, but the partnership has recently taken on new meaning with an emphasis on joint weapon development.
