RAMALLAH: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with President of the European Union (EU) Parliament Roberta Metsola in Ramallah to discuss the rising tension between Palestine and Israel. On Tuesday, the meeting took place.
Metsola came to Israel on Monday and had discussions in the Israeli Knesset, or parliament, amid rising tensions between Israel and Palestinians in recent weeks, according to reports.
President Abbas addressed the EU Parliament President on the continuous "Israeli assaults and assassinations," settlement development, and Israeli actions in east Jerusalem, according to the official Palestinian news agency (WAFA). "The unilateral Israeli measures in Jerusalem and the entire Palestinian lands are mounting to crimes of ethnic cleansing and racial discrimination," the Palestinian President told WAFA.
Abbas complimented the European Parliament, the European Union (EU), and its member states for supporting the political process to end the Israeli occupation based on international legitimacy and international law.
The President of the European Parliament told the Palestinian President that the EU backs the two-state solution based on international resolutions, international law, and rejection of Israeli settlements.
