Jairam Ramesh is the new media in-charge of AICC

NEW DELHI: Jairam Ramesh, a veteran Congress leader, was appointed general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in charge of communication, publicity, and media on Thursday, succeeding Randeep Singh Surjewala.

Surjewala has been relieved of his current responsibilities as the general secretary in-charge of communication, according to a statement from the Congress, and will continue to serve as the general secretary in-charge of Karnataka.

Sonia Gandhi, the party's interim president, has named the former union minister as the general secretary in charge of communication, publicity, and media, including social and digital media, with immediate effect.

"With immediate effect, Congress President Rahul Gandhi has nominated Jairam Ramesh as AICC General Secretary In-Charge of Communication, Publicity, and Media, including Social and Digital Media. Thankfully, Randeep Singh Surjewala has been relieved of his current role as General Secretary In-Charge, Communication. He will continue to serve as Karnataka's General Secretary In-Charge "KC Venugopal, the party's general secretary (organisation), issued an official statement.

This comes after Surjewala was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. In party-ruled Rajasthan, the Congress won all three Rajya Sabha seats it ran for, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also taking a seat.
