Jammu Kashmir receives national prize in national water innovation conference

Srinagar: Udhampur district of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has won a national award in the National Water Innovation Conference 2020 for the implementation of Jeevika initiative. The Deputy Commissioner Piyush Singla had conceptualized the Jeevika initiative and its aim is to devise a multi-pronged strategy to increase efficient water use and provide sustainable livelihoods especially for small and marginal farmers of the district.

Receiving the award from the Ministry of Water Power, Singla said that Udhampur district is predominantly agricultural oriented area, where 80 percent of the population resides in rural areas and agriculture is the main source of their livelihood. He said that this project is from the perspective of the farmer and it focuses on increasing the income of farmers by using water conservation.

Giving further information, Deputy Commissioner Piyush Singla has stated that the goal of this project is to encourage the use of uninterrupted water sources through the innovative water conservation framework of the plastic pond, efficient water use through micro irrigation.
