Kochi: In the statement, the main accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case has revealed that she had gone to Kochi with her co-accused Sandeep Nair after the customs officers exposed the smuggling of thirty kilograms of gold on July 5. Both of them were staying in a hotel in Perumanoor from Kochi for two days. He has revealed this in his statement to the customs department.

She further said that after the department exposed the smuggling, she reached Varkala with her family and advocate. After this Sandeep and Swapna escaped to Kochi, but were eventually arrested by the National Investigation Agency. Swapna also said that he had served as the Consul General of the UAE Consulate till September 2019, after which he resigned from there.

Let us tell you that on July 5, the Customs Department had uncovered thirty kilograms of gold smuggling worth about fifteen crores on the Thiruvananthapuram aircraft floor. Gold was being sent in the air cargo in the name of the Consul General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). At the same time, the agency has made twenty-five people accused in this case, out of which twenty have been arrested. A special PMLA court in Kochi had earlier extended the judicial custody of 3 key accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case - Sarith PS, Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair till September 9.
