Srinagar: Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed for re-movement due to heavy rains, snowfall, landslides in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials said vehicular movement remained suspended for the third day due to stone pelting at various places. Strict arrangements have been made for the safety of passengers. Officials said the highway has been closed again due to landslides and stone falls in several parts of the Ramban district.

The Met department has predicted snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir with heavy rains. The department says the situation may continue in the Union Territory for the next 12 hours. IMD said some changes in the weather could happen by this evening. However, people are estimated to get complete relief on the morning of January 9. IMD said rain and snowfall may affect traffic and air travel on roads on January 8.

Moreover, avalanches and landslides on sensitive parts can also occur. The department has issued a warning asking people not to move to the avalanche-prone area. Meanwhile, a thick layer of snow was frozen in the Shopian district of the state today after heavy snowfall. The Mata Vaishno Devi temple in Katra is also experiencing snowfall. Helicopter services etc. have been cancelled due to snowfall.
