New Delhi: The response of the University's VC has come after the recent violence at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). VC Shantishree Dhulipudi Pandit said, "I want to correct the perception of the public that we are 'piece-piece... ' Yes, there's nothing like that. After taking over, I have not seen anyone talk like this.'' He further said that JNU is an independent university. We respect people's choices. Young people have opinions and we appreciate diversity and disagreement. But we won't let it end through violence. He said whether to perform havan on Ram Navami or not and a controversy arose over the menu of the food. This is a matter between two groups. A proctorial inquiry was ordered and we are awaiting the report, it will be a fair investigation. He said that there was Ram Navami puja in 16 hostels and non-veg food was also served. It's strange that this issue is just raised in a hostel. He said that I think some people did not like the atmosphere of peace for a few months, so the whole ruckus started. VC said that we have started proctor level investigation to find out what happened and we will also make the report public. He said that non-vegetarian food is a non-issue, everyone in JNU has the right to eat the food of their choice. This is their democratic right.
