Jen Psaki steps down as White House Press Secretary, Karine charges

WASHINGTON – Jen Psaki, the White House Press Secretary, has resigned after 15 months in the position and 224 media briefings. "I would like to express my gratitude to the President and First Lady. "They have entrusted me with serving in this job for the last 15 months," Psaki said at her final White House briefing on Friday.

She also expressed gratitude to White House press secretary Josh Earnest and reporters in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room.  "You have pushed me, debated with me, and at times we have disagreed. That is how democracy works. That's how it works.  "I appreciate everything you do." Thank you for improving my life. And, most importantly, thank you for the work you do every day to strengthen this country," she said.

Psaki made her 224th White House appearance on Friday, dating back to the day Joe Biden was sworn in as President in January 2021.

Karine Jean-Pierre has been appointed as the new White House press secretary, making her the first African-American and openly LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender)  person to fill the job. The White House Press Secretary serves as an aide to the US President and offers daily briefings to the media on the administration's operations and priorities.
