Jharkhand Assembly Polls: 64.12% of Total Voter Turnout Recorded for First Phase

Ranchi: According to the information received recently, in the first phase of Jharkhand assembly elections, peaceful polling was completed in 13 assembly seats of six Naxal-affected districts except for sporadic incidents. Thirteen assembly constituencies recorded a record 64.12 percent polling so far. The fate of 187 candidates, including a minister, half a dozen former ministers, was sealed in the electronic voting machine. Now, with the counting of votes on December 23, the fate of these leaders will be decided. Voting started from seven in the morning on Saturday, amid a pink chill. Naxalites did not survive amid tight security arrangements.

Naxalites tried to create panic by having a blast in Gumla's Ghagra. But there was no damage anywhere. Both incidents were a sign of frustration for the Naxalites. People from all regions participated in the voting with full enthusiasm. Except for small cases, no major malfunctions were reported in EVMs. A clash took place between Congress candidate KN Tripathi and BJP supporters in Chanpur area of Daltonganj assembly constituency. The Congress candidate waved a pistol at the crowd. At the same time, the mob attacked KN Tripathi with stones and damaged his car.

According to information received from sources, the three districts of Palamu division are Bhavnathpur, Garhwa Assembly of Garhwa, Daltonganj, Vishrampur, Hussainabad, Chhatarpur and Panki in Palamu district, Manika and Latehar Naxal affected areas of Latehar district. Apart from these, in Chatra, Gumla and Bishunpur and Lohardaga, the enthusiasm of the voters was seen. People had lined up since morning.
