Ranchi: The procurement of paddy from farmers will start from December 15 in Jharkhand. Necessary arrangements are being made to start procurement of paddy in lamps and packs in all blocks of the state. This time, 50 per cent of the total price of paddy sold by the farmers will be paid by the government immediately. The remaining 50 per cent will be given to the donors within 3 months. The Government has fixed a maximum limit of 200 quintals for procurement of paddy from a farmer. State Agriculture and Cooperation Minister Badal Patralekh has said that the government has set a target of procuring 2 lakh tonnes more paddy this time than last year. This time a target of procurement of 8 lakh tonnes has been fixed. Last time, against the target of 6 lakh tonnes, the government had procured 6.2 lakh tonnes of paddy. Paddy procurement rates are the same as last year. 20.50 per quintal for ordinary paddy and Rs.20.70 per quintal for Grade A variety. The amount includes both the MINIMUM SUPPORT PRICE fixed by the Centre and the bonus paid by the State Government. It has been said that the reason behind fixing the limit for procuring most of 200 quintals of paddy from a farmer is that the Government wants to benefit more and more farmers from the Government support price.
