Ranchi: Congress MLA Deepika Pandey's plea in the Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday in connection with the assault on a suspended police officer was heard. The court accepted the plea of high court judge SK Dwivedi for time to file his reply on behalf of the defendant while hearing it in the court, which the court accepted and fixed February 16 as the next date of hearing. As a result, the court upheld the interim relief granted to Deepika Pandey Singh earlier. Jharkhand High Court, while hearing, said that the court's earlier order to take "no punitive steps" against Mahagama MLA Deepika Pandey Singh will continue. Singh had filed a petition before the High Court seeking quashing of the case after an FIR was filed against her by Gautam Kashyap, former in-charge of Mehrama police station (Godda). The petition said that action has been taken against them in retaliation and the wrong FIR had been registered, so the FIR should be adjourned. MLA, Dipika Pandey Singh, was lodged in April 2020 by SI Gautam Kashyap, a former police officer of Mehrama police station in Godda, alleging assault, file snatching and obstructing government work. The high court had earlier ordered a ban on punitive proceedings against Singh which will continue till the next date of hearing. The next hearing in the case will be held on February 16. MLA Deepika Pandey Singh sat on protest at Mehrama police station on Monday afternoon to protest against the FIR. MLA termed the allegations of the former suspended police station in charge Kashyap Gautam as baseless. She questioned what a suspended police officer was doing to the police station file by sitting at a citizen's house at 8 pm. The MLA also demanded a high-level investigation. She said she will not seek bail. The police arrested him and sent him to jail. MLA said she could not sit quietly when she saw the police station becoming a den of touts. There is an attempt to pressurise her by making fake cases.
