American singer and musician Mellencamp is known for his catchy, populist brand of heartland rock, which emphasizes traditional instrumentation. The singer will be soon going to be awarded the 5th edition of Woody Guthrie Prize. According to a report published in The Hollywood Reporter, The Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, informed that Mellencamp will be presented with the award during a ceremony on August 30 this year. Woody Guthrie annual prize is given to an artist, who best exemplifies legendary American singer Woody Guthrie, whose songs have inspired several generations both politically and musically. The musician Mellencamp was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 10, 2008, and on June 14, 2018, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In tandem with honoring Mellencamp's career of spotlighting "the everyday man and woman, the less fortunate and the forgotten," the center will host an exhibition recently seen at Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Mellencamp has also won awards in his career. Grammy Award winner in 1983 for Hurts So Good and recipient of the Billboard Century Award in 2001, Huntington's Disease Society of America's Woody Guthrie Award in 2003, Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement for Songwriting in 2010 and John Steinbeck Award in 2012.
