New Delhi: The Central government will present 'The High Court and Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Amendment Bill 2021' in Rajya Sabha for consideration as the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament enters its 11th day on Monday. The Rajya Sabha will consider the Bill clarifying that a person will be entitled to the additional pension or family pension from the first day of the month in which they complete the minimum age under the concerned age bracket, amid a continuing feud with the Opposition over the suspension of 12 MPs. The wages and conditions of service of judges of the High Courts and the Supreme Court of India are governed by the High Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Act, 1954, and the Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Act, 1958, respectively. The Bill, which seeks to alter the High Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Act, 1954 and the Supreme and Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Act, 1958, would be introduced by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju. All retired Supreme Court and High Court justices, as well as their family members, are entitled to a pension or family pension under the Acts. When they reach a specific age, they are also entitled to an additional amount of pension or family pension based on a scale. The scale is divided into five age categories (minimum ages of 80, 85, 90, 95, and 100 years), with the additional quantum increasing with each age bracket (from 20 per cent to 100 per cent of the pension or family pension).
