LOS ANGELES: The Princess Diaries 3's Clarisse Renaldi, the regent queen of Genovia, was portrayed by Hollywood icon Julie Andrews, who also hinted that she would not appear in the third movie. "I think we know that it is probably not going to be possible," Andrews told Access Hollywood. "It was discussed fairly soon after the release of (the second sequel), but how long has it been since then? And Annie the p incess, or queen, is so much older than I am. Also, I'm not clear where it would run or float" reports "Deadline." Andrews and Anne Hathaway were the stars of Garry Marshall's 2001 film The Princess Diaries. The central character in the coming-of-age comedy, Mia Thermopolis, played by Anne Hathaway, was based on the well-known Meg Cabot novel series. Mia, a young woman from San Francisco, learns that she is the heir apparent to Genovia. Three years later, in 2004, "The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement" was released, with Andrews and Hathaway repeating their respective parts. Since the sequel's release 18 years ago, Andrews doesn't appear very interested in picking up the series again. Although the third movie's specifics are not yet revealed, it is assumed that the plot will continue from the previous two. Earlier this year, Hathaway revealed her desire to direct a follow-up to The Princess Diaries and offered a way to get Andrews back as well.
