Justice D Krishnakumar has been appointed the new Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, just two days after the Supreme Court Collegium recommended his name. The announcement was made on November 20, following the retirement of the current Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, Justice Siddharth Mridul, who is stepping down on Thursday upon reaching the age of 62.
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended Justice Krishnakumar, who currently serves as a judge of the Madras High Court, for the position on November 18. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal shared the news on social media, offering his best wishes to the newly appointed Chief Justice.
Justice Krishnakumar has been serving as a judge in the Madras High Court since April 7, 2016, and is scheduled to retire on May 21, 2025. He is the senior-most judge in the Madras High Court after the Chief Justice. The Collegium also highlighted that he hails from a backward community.
Before his elevation to the high court, Justice Krishnakumar built a strong legal career, specializing in constitutional law. He has a rich background in civil, constitutional, and service matters, gaining extensive experience in his field.
