Jyothsna Channdola Singh: Making a comeback after having children wasn't simple

Three years after her final appearance with Musakaan, Jyothsna Channdola—Khushi Bharadwaj in Sasural Simar Ka—became well-known. She is now a part of Sindoor Ki Keemat's cast. The actress claims that the character was "beautifully written" and was performance-based. A better response was better than I could have imagined.

The family drama has been airing for the previous 12 months. Wouldn't she have preferred to make a comeback with a fresh show? "These things don't affect my decision in any way. I've always put the character first. It doesn't matter to me whether a show is current or brand-new as long as I get to perform in it, she responds.

Jyothsna, who never stopped working, took a break from television in 2019 in order to try her luck in movies. She extended the break to celebrate becoming a mother. I tried for movies and web series," she claims. In fact, COVID struck just as I was being finalized for a big-budget movie. I'm not sure what's going on with that movie right now. I also experienced a personal setback. In November 2020, I lost my father. I struggled with depression and anxiety. I wasn't prepared to return to my job. Additionally, I wanted to start a family and was fortunate to have a boy in June 2021.

In October of last year, I received an offer for another film, but I was unable to accept it because my baby was too young. I can now go back to work because he will soon turn one and a half. My desire to return to the set was actually intense. A performer cannot go too long without seeing the camera. Of course, I will miss him dearly, and I share the mother's shame. However, Nitesh (her husband Singh) will be there to look after Joni (her baby). We have a house helper as well as my mother living nearby. So, that aspect is not a source of stress. In addition, the distance between my house and the show's set is 10 minutes.

The road to recovery wasn't as simple as one might think, though. Several shows never happened despite being in advanced stages of planning. "I don't think I struggled as much when I first entered the industry as I have to make a comeback," she says. I was selected for the short list, secured the funding, and participated in mock shoots for several shows, but nothing came to fruition. Rejections are something I have to deal with. Most of them were concerned about how I would manage my personal and professional lives now that I am a mother. It was an instance of out-of-sight-out-of-mind for me. I no longer received invitations to events. I take no responsibility for it, but the phase made me more patient and resilient. I hope there won't be a break any longer (smiles)."
